Michele Balagot

Up

My name is Teotti Michele Balagot. My Indian name is dᶻagʷabidic̓aʔ. My father is Mike Dunn Sr. and my mother is Sharon Pierce. I have one child and her name is Brooklyn Francis. I am an enrolled member of the Tulalip Tribes. I started with the Tribe working at the Tulalip ECEAP Program in September of 1990.   Then in September of 1997 I joined the Lushootseed Language Department as a Language Teacher. I graduated from Western Washington University in 2005 with a Bachelors of Art and received my teaching Certificate for K-8th grade.   After graduation, I became the Manager of the Lushootseed Department. Being the Manager has been a big learning experience for me, but I have great teachers working in this department. I have recently enrolled at Phoenix University for my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. Working full time and going to school full time is very challenging for me. We are keeping busy at the Lushootseed Department: making lesson plans and materials, interviewing the elders, Language camp, teaching, and much more. We are also involved with the Hibulb Cultural Center and Natural History Preserve getting the story line put together.
