We currently have no teachers in the elementary schools.   When we have teachers in the schools.    With the knowledge they have gained on EALR’s and GLE’s, the teachers want to ensure that their work is up to standards so parents, teachers and educational professionals know the time spent with Language Teachers is time well spent.  The lessons are designed to reinforce state and district guidelines for academics, but they are taught in the native language.

Their classrooms have greetings, rules, word walls and the calendar displayed in Lushootseed.  This helps reinforce what the students are learning in their own classrooms and help them realize how much they can use their ancestral language in everyday settings.

The teachers main goal is to ensure that the students have the opportunity to learn their native language and not take time away from their regular academic learning.
